Senior Hannah Holloway studies Interior Design and Art History at Indiana University, and is a member of our Beta Alpha chapter. She was asked to lead the redesign of her chapter house’s library, and the results are stunning!
My name is Hannah Holloway and I am currently a senior at Indiana University studying Interior Design and Art History. I am a member of the Beta Alpha Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi, and was asked by our Housing Corporation to be the lead interior designer on our recent library renovation project.
Our original library was very outdated, with yellow walls, green carpeting, and plaid and brown textures. I was asked to redesign this space to provide an updated, comfortable, durable, and chic study space for my sisters. This included working with a contractor to select new carpeting, add more electrical outlets, design a decorative wainscoting, update the existing ceiling tiles, repaint existing walls and trim, and more. I was able to select all new finishes and furniture, including designing a large custom couch to go in the space. The space planning, design process, and construction took about a year to complete, and the space is now an updated, durable, comfortable, and relaxing study space for my sisters.
I could not have done any of this without the input of my sisters, including requests to add more tables and seating options, additional electrical outlets, sound-proofing certain walls, and making the color scheme blue and white. Their support throughout the entire process made the whole experience so much easier, and the final product is truly amazing.
My sisters are loving their new study space and we continue to have one of the top GPA’s across all of Greek Life here at Indiana university. I could not be more proud to be an Alpha Delta Pi and have been able to give back to this organization by doing what I love by designing a space that better serves my sisters every day.
