Helpful Tips for your Scholarship Application

You started filling out your  Alpha Delta Pi Foundation Scholarship application but noare wondering “what next”? These helpful tips will guide you towards finishing your application and qualifying for all nationally competitive scholarships (and possibly some others based on your chapter, major, or where you grew up).

  1. Letters of Recommendation – Because the application is online this year, we have streamlined the process in which letters of recommendation are received. In the past, a large percent of qualified applicants were disqualified because letters were sent after the deadline or sometimes not at all. This year, you plug in the person’s contact information and a link is emailed directly to the person. They upload the letter and click submit. You are notified when they submit, so there’s no guessing whether or not it was submitted.
  2. Transcripts – Since applications are due on March 1st there is no point in waiting to request a copy of your transcripts. Your cumulative GPA will be from grades in December. If your school has the capacity to email the transcripts, go for this option and have them sent directly to If your school only mails hard copies of transcripts, they must be postmarked by March 1, 2016 in order to be eligible. This means you should request your transcripts no later than February 16, 2016, which is two weeks from the deadline. Don’t wait until the last minute to request a copy of your transcripts!
  3. Essay – You get 300 words to wow the committee. Make them count. Creativity is key when you’re thinking about how to make your essay unique. One applicant (a PR major) wrote her essay like a press release. Another submitted her essay with a quote from her favorite author and based the content around this. The scholarship committee reads every application thoroughly…make yours stand out with an awesome essay!
  4. Incomplete Status – When you fill your application out and click submit, you will likely get a notification stating your application is incomplete. Don’t freak out. This is normal and very dependent on Numbers 1 and 2. Once all letters of recommendation are submitted and our office uploads your transcripts to your application, your status will change to complete automatically.
