We did it! TEAM ADPi ran their hearts out at the 2015 Bank of America Chicago Marathon on October 11, 2015. Although we didn’t finish in first place with fundraising, we did set our new personal best. Thank you to all the runners and supporters for helping us raise $52,924 for Ronald McDonald House Charities. Team Captain, Jennifer Brown Arends – Beta Sigma, Mercer University, led TEAM ADPi in fundraising efforts and was even recognized as one of TEAM RMHC’s top fundraisers with over $4,000 in support. Collectively, TEAM RMHC, which was over 900 runners strong, generated $1.14 million dollars which will support families all over the world, providing a home away from home.
Now let’s recap the race! October 11th started out like any other beautiful fall day in Chicago… except it had an extra million people in the city to watch and run the marathon. The 26.2 mile course wound through 29 neighborhoods, with the start and finish in iconic Grant Park. TEAM ADPi had 37 of the 46 team members run (sadly, we had some injuries preventing a handful of runners from participating on race day). Several local chapter sisters and alumnae came out to show their Pi Love and cheer on our runners, who ironed ADPi on their shirt to be easily recognizable. Following the race, Team RMHC had a hospitality tent set up for the runners to recover, relax, and rejoice that they finished. There, TEAM ADPi runners cheered one another on as they made it back, walking down the red carpet and taking selfies with Ronald McDonald. Some cried. Some were all smiles. But everyone was truly grateful for this experience, raising money and running for an organization that is so important to each of them.
Following the race, The Alpha Delta Pi Foundation held a reception at the Palmer House for TEAM ADPi runners, guests, and Chicago area alumnae to celebrate the amazing accomplishments of these runners (i.e. raising more than $50k and running 969.4 miles). If you have an interest in joining TEAM ADPi for the 2016 Bank of America Chicago Marathon, serving on the host committee for next year’s reception, or want to be included in the fun, please contact email@example.com. We look forward to an even bigger team and larger fundraising goals in 2016.
