(If hashtag is a foreign word to you, scroll down to the bottom of this post for some social media 101.)
Our main hashtag for the meeting is #ADPiLS. Check out this hashtag on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to see all of the fun our sisters are having during the week. Adelphean Compass attendees can add the hashtag #ADPIAC14 to their posts and IMPACT attendees can add #IMPACTADPi to their posts to share their excitement leading up to and the fun during LS. Advisors, IOs, House Corp can use the hashtag #ADPiLS to share their tips, takeaways and experience.
For those on Twitter and Instagram, be sure to follow @Alphadeltapi. We will be sharing more behind-the-scenes fun on these accounts including some exclusives that will not be on Facebook. IMPACT attendees on Twitter can follow @IMPACT_ADPi for IMPACT specific posts. All of the Alpha Delta Pi social media accounts will be posting the latest news and information.
Now we know that these social media outlets can be addicting but please be mindful and tuck your phones away during your sessions. We want to show all of our presenters, facilitators and other attendees respect and pay our utmost attention. If there is a great takeaway from a session you would like to post, write it down in your notebook and tweet it during the break. You never know when Alpha Delta Pi will retweet!
We posted some social media 101 prior to the last Leadership Seminar. Since social media is always changing, we’ve updated the guide for 2014.
Social Media 101
Facebook- Facebook is the most popular Alpha Delta Pi social media outlet. Users join Facebook to connect with friends and like pages of products/services/organizations (like us) and their favorite movies and TV shows to stay informed. On Facebook, one can “like” a post that interests them and they can “share” the post onto their timeline or to a friend.
Twitter- a social media community where members ‘tweet’ (post) statuses about anything and everything in 140 characters or less. Users ‘follow’ other users and tag them in posts by mentioning them.
Hashtag- a word or phrase preceded by the pound symbol (#). These words or phrases become clickable and when clicked lead to a group of posts all pertaining to the hashtag. Hashtags can be found on Twitter, Instagram and now on Facebook.
Instagram- a mobile application that allows users to share photos with other users. The pictures can go through a variety of different filters changing the look of the image. The idea of hashtags and mentioning applies in these photos captions.
Foursquare- a mobile application that allows users to “check-in” to restaurants, shops and important locations. These check-ins let the user’s friends know where the user has been and these can be connected to the user’s other social media accounts.
