Today was the first full day of Alpha Delta Pi’s Grand Convention! Sisters woke up bright and early, and excited, for the Adelphean Processional. The Processional is the formal opening of Convention and we honor our founders with how we dress. All sisters dress in white dresses or skirt suits and shoes with blue ribands that read ” we live for each other.”
Every chapter, both active and closed, has a flag adorned with its letters. The chapter president or a sister representative are flag bearers and carry their flags through the Processional.
Walking through the Processional was absolutely amazing! We walked two by two and by districts, District III represent! To better understand, imagine the parade of nations at the opening ceremonies at the Olympics, but the countries were chapters. Yes, it felt that momentous and passing the Beta Phi flag and seeing our president Rebecca holding it is something I’ll never forget.
After the Processional, when we were all seated, we listened to International President Tammie Pinkston give her keynote address ” ADPI – Deep in My Heart.” Ms. Pinkston addressed how joining ADPI wasn’t a hard decision, it was just the right choice and she followed her intuition. She also talked about if you have ADPI ” deep in your heart,” the passion you have will help keep this organization first, finest forever.
During the Foundation Luncheon, we celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Alpha Delta Pi Foundation. It was inspiring to see and hear testimonials of what the Foundation has done for our sisters; we really do live for each other.
The afternoon ended with the first business meeting where credentialed delegates voted on proposed Bylaws Amendments and Resolutions. Although I couldn’t vote, it was so fascinating to observe.
Although it was only the first day, I am so in awe of how incredible convention is. It’s absolutely amazing meeting sisters from all different places and learning about this incredible organization. I can’t wait for the rest of Convention!
